Fundraiser comes to Dundee

DUNDEE--The Yates County Quarter Auction, a fundraiser for Our Town Rocks, will be held Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the Masons' Community Center (15 Main St., Dundee). Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. start for the auction. This is the first time the event will be held in Dundee.
According to event organizer Michele Swartley, Quarter Auctions are a "cross between an auction and bingo. People pay $5 for four bidding paddles. Additional paddles will be available for $1.00. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. As items come up for auction, those interested in the item toss either one or two quarters into the bucket with their paddle number."
The auctioneer determines the value for each item - either one quarter or two. Once all bids are placed, a winning paddle number is drawn. Paddles are good for the entire evening.
Swartley expects that bidders will be able to select from a variety of gift items, home décor, gift certificates, crafts and jewelry.
"In the past, our Quarter Auctions have raised up to $1,000 for the benefiting non-profit," said Swartley.
Swartley is hoping for between 75 and 100 attendees and expects the event will last between two and three hours. The Yates County Quarter Auction is hosted by local vendors, crafters, and direct sales personnel.
