Hammondsport chamber begins new local event

HAMMONDSPORT--The Hammondsport Chamber of Commerce is welcoming spring with a new event: the Eggstravaganza on Keuka. Live from April 1 through April 8, the event invites people to hunt for locally-made glass eggs.
More than two dozen eggs will be hidden each day during the event on trails, in parks and museums, and with area businesses. In total, more than 200 glass eggs, commissioned by the chamber from seven local artists, will be available for finding. Approximately 45 organizations will be hosting eggs, with additional locations in natural settings.
Those who find eggs should register them with the chamber to be entered in the grand prize drawing and the "eggspanded chance" (second chance) drawings. The grand prize is a two-night, three-day stay in Hammondsport with certificates for free meals at restaurants and area attractions.
"This is not a fundraiser," said Christine Haar, office manager at the chamber. "It's a 'fun-raiser.' We're hoping for a lot of community participation, and we're hoping that people enjoy the 'hunt.'"
Registration is not required to participate. Those wishing to hunt for eggs should watch the chamber's Facebook page for directions. Twenty-five eggs will be hidden in specific zones each day; the zones will be announced via Facebook. Participants are invited to hunt from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Throughout the event, hunters will be encouraged to visit each zone twice. Zones will cover the west and east sides of Keuka Lake and the village of Hammondsport as well as the Pleasant Valley area.
