Independence Day events return for holiday weekend

FINGER LAKES--As travel and special event celebrations continue to return as summer commences, there are a number of festive events for Independence Day weekend planned.
Hammondsport will hold their Fireman's Carnival Friday, July 2 and Saturday, July 3. On Friday, events begin at 6 p.m. and the evening features a water ball competition at 6:30 p.m. and Sam Pallet Band from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday's attractions open at 11 a.m. and include a parade through the village at 6 p.m. Gemini Band will perform from 7 to 10 p.m. before the fireworks go off at 10.
Outlaw Speedway in Dundee will be hosting the Fireworks Extravaganza in addition to racing action, Friday, July 2. The first green flag waves at 7:30 p.m. There is free camping at the facility and grandstand admission is $20 for adults and free for kids 12 and under.
On Sunday, July 4, the Branchport/Keuka Park Fire Department will have a drive-thru chicken BBQ at noon, the parade at 2 p.m. and fireworks at 10 p.m. In addition, the flares lit along Keuka Lake, sponsored by the Yates County Chamber of Commerce, will be at 10 p.m. on Sunday.
In Watkins Glen, the Chamber of Commerce fireworks event at Clute Park will get underway at approximately 9:45 p.m. The pyrotechnics display will be presented by Young Explosives with a rain date of July 5.
