One dies in Seneca Lake boat accident

HIMROD--Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike reports a boat accident that occurred Saturday, July 10 resulted in six individuals being ejected into Seneca Lake with one person deceased pending an autopsy.
At 5:22 p.m. Saturday, Yates County 911 dispatchers received the first call about a boating accident on Seneca Lake with multiple people injured in the water near the Showboat Motel. Sheriff's deputies and marine patrol responded along with the Himrod Fire Department rescue and boat as well as multiple ambulances, Medic 55 advanced life support (ALS), state police, and the office of emergency management.
The investigation has shown a Donzi high-performance speed boat approximately 45-foot long was proceeding south on the lake at a fast speed when it made an abrupt turn causing it to roll up onto its side and the owner/operator Michael Battley, 48, of Seneca Falls and five other individuals on board were ejected. Several individuals onshore swam in the water to their rescue. No personal flotation devices (PFDs) were worn but were onboard. All injured were taken to motel docks.
Penn Yan Volunteer Ambulances were on scene and two medivac helicopters (Mercy Flight and LifeNet) also responded.
Coroner Tad Smith pronounced Cynthia A. Stuck, 65, of Waterloo, deceased at the scene. Deloss Stuck, 57, of Waterloo was taken to F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. Jessica Stine, 40, of Fishers, New York, also went to Thompson. David Knorr, 44, of Clifton Springs was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Alyssa Knorr, 40, also of Clifton Springs was medivaced to Strong. Operator Battley also went to Thompson Hospital, however was not treated.
Sheriff Marine patrol has impounded the vessel for further investigation and accident reconstruction. This matter is still under active investigation and deputies seek anyone not interviewed who witnessed the event or took pics to call 315-536-4438 or email sheriff@yatescounty.org.
