PENN YAN--Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a significant milestone for the Yates Community Center (YCC) as it secures a $1.5 million grant award through the Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) initiative. This substantial investment will help the development of a multi-use indoor facility in Penn Yan.
The REDC process continues to support regional stakeholders in developing plans and funding priorities that meet local needs. To date, through the REDC Initiative, more than $8 billion has been awarded to more than 9,900 job creation and community development projects.
Yates Cultural and Recreational Resources, Inc., the non-profit entity behind the YCC, annually serves over 2,000 individuals in the county and beyond. This grant pushes the organization one step closer to constructing a new facility designed to enhance physical and mental well-being, foster community engagement, and facilitate inclusive programming for all demographics.
Beth Clark, executive director of YCC, expressed heartfelt appreciation, stating, “We are profoundly grateful for this generous grant award, which marks a pivotal moment in our journey toward realizing a vibrant and inclusive community space. This funding will enable us to expand our reach, deepen our impact, and create a space where every member of our community feels welcomed and valued.”
Dr. Leigh Berry, president of the board, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the significance of this milestone in the YCC’s evolution. “This grant award is a testament to the tireless efforts of our staff, volunteers, and community partners who have steadfastly championed our vision. With this support, we are poised to embark on a new chapter of growth and service, solidifying our commitment to fostering well-being, opportunity, and belonging for all.”
